Defendant pled guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct, MCL 750.520d; MSA 28.788(4), in exchange for reduction of the charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, MCL 750.520b; MSA 28.788(2). Defendant was sentenced to ten to fifteen years in prison. The sole issue on appeal is whether defendant's sentence was an abuse of discretion to the extent that it shocks the conscience of this Court under People v Coles, 417 Mich 523; 339 NW2d 440 (1983). Defendant was sentenced in excess of the guidelines recommendation of a minimum of from three to five years. In departing from the guidelines the court referred to defendant's extensive juvenile record, the possible impact on the six-year-old victim, punishment of the defendant, and the deterrent effect of his sentence on others. The court concluded that the guidelines did not accurately reflect the seriousness of the offense.
